Any person working with, handling or preparing food must complete and hold a valid Food Handling or Food Safety Course certificate. The Food Handling course in Melbourne will teach you how to handle and store food safely and correctly. This course runs over 3 hours and is the minimum accreditation is the minimum requirement of anyone working with food. This course will issue you with the ‘Follow Workplace Hygiene Procedures’ nationally accredited Statement of Attainment which is also known as a Food Handling Course or an RSF (Responsible Service of Food). The Victorian Bar School runs these courses throughout the week, offering daytime, evening and weekend classes.

Alternatively you can complete the Food Safety Certificate. The Food Safety Certificate, also known as The Food Safety Supervisor Certificate is a full day course and includes the RSF certificate but goes on to include further information and training to ensure you comply with all requirements and regulations with regard to running, owning or managing a venue that prepares, provides or serves food.

Hygiene for Food Handlers Certificate – $95

This program will provide you with the Nationally Recognised Unit of Competence:
SITXFSA001 – Use hygienic practices for food safety

This course is a legal requirement for all staff who work in the preparation and service of food across any industry.
The RSF course will provide basic cleaning and hygiene knowledge, skills, principles, practices and procedures for everyone that works in the preparation of food. This accreditation is essential for all chefs, cooks, kitchen hands, café staff, kiosk attendants, any food handling staff in small businesses and many others. The course will cover the following topics.

Food Safety Supervisor Certificate – $195

This full day course combines the Food Handlers Course with the Food Safety Supervisors Course in one day of training to provide students with following Nationally Recognised units of competence:

SITXFSA001 – Use hygienic practices for food safety
SITXFSA002 – Participate in safe food handling practices

This Nationally Recognised program will include the Hygiene for Food Handlers Certificate and deliver the above modules to instruct food handlers and food safety supervisors in their duties, responsibilities, attitudes required and relevant legislation. It will go on to include the basic competencies, knowledge and skills required to implement food safety procedures and complete relevant documentation.

You will learn the risks associated with all stages of food preparation from purchasing to distribution to customers and strategies to combat them, using HACCP procedures to identify and control food safety hazards. You will be taught the best procedures for correctly handling food, environmental hygiene, controlling the cold food chain, keeping food safe and personal hygiene. The course will also include demonstrations of best practices to improve food safety at your business, ensure you comply with relevant requirements and reduce the hazard to your guests.
Covers the following subjects:

Assessment will be a mix of demonstrations, class based activities and a test, all completed in class time.
Students who have already completed “Hygiene for Food Handlers – Level 1″ can complete level 2 for only $110 (appropriate documentation must be provided).
